Religious Education is a major part of the parish that reinforces what is taught at
the Mass and helps explain all the important events that have taken place throughout
Christianity. We are using Loyola for grades 1 - 10.
If you would like to enroll your child(ren) in our religious education program,
print the following two pages out, fill them in and send it in. Your name will be
put on a list for a mandatory meeting in order to register at a later date.

Grade 1: We learn about God and that he knows and loves us. We also learn about Jesus and that he is God's own Son. We learn all about Jesus, that he was a friend and teacher, the Last Supper, his death and resurrection.
There are three prayers that are taught at this level: Sign of the Cross, Our Father, and Hail Mary.
Grade 2: We learn about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (The Blessed Trinity). We also learn about the Catholic Church and our Parish. We learn about the sacraments: Baptism, Reconciliation, and the Eucharist. Two more prayers are taught at this level: Act of Contrition and Glory to the Father. The highlight of this grade is making First Communion.
Grade 3: More is taught on Jesus' mission and teachings, and the apostles. We learn about the Bible both the Old and New Testament. The new prayer at this level is Apostles' Creed.
Grade 4: We learn more about Jesus' teachings: meaning of God, faith, hope, and love. We also learn about the Ten Commandments and the meaning of each one. Two additional prayers are learned: Angelus, and Come, Holy Spirit.
Basically, at this level the children are introduced to God, Jesus, and the Bible. Each week, a different class of children will attend either the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 p.m. Mass. This will help them worship as a class and to practice their prayers that they have learned.
Grade 5: More is learned about Jesus and how he blessed our lives. We learn more about the Sacraments of Initiation and the Sacraments of Healing and Service. The new prayer at this level is Hail, Holy Queen.
Grade 6: We learn more about the Bible and its teachings. We learn about the Promised Land, some teachings from the Prophets, and teachings from the New Testament. The new prayer is Prayer of Saint Francis.
In these grades, the teacher reinforces what was learned in the early grades and applies it to everyday living. The children will also participate in the special holiday Masses like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. At the Thanksgiving Eve Mass, a procession is formed and the children bring the food offering for the needy people in the area up to the altar. During the Christmas Eve Mass, the children participate in the living Gospel. As the Priest reads, the children act out the scences.
Grade 7:We learn about morality. The only way to archieve happiness is by rejecting sin and freely choosing to do what is right. Modeling our life on Christ and the Church's teachings will help us lead a moral life. In addition to moral decision making, we will also explore the Ten Commandments in greater detail.
Grade 8:We learn about Catholic beliefs beginning with questions of faith and revelation. We learn the mysteries of God's revelation as they are taught to us by the Church and that they are essential to faith and give us our own Catholic Identity.
Grade 9:We study more of the teachings of Jesus. We will look in depth at the Church and what it means to be a member of the Church. We learn about the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit. We also learn how the Holy Spirit guides the teaching authority of the Church.
Grade 10:In this grade, the candidates for Confirmation prepare intensely for this Sacrament.
Monthly meetings are held with sponsors and parents, to reinforce the reality of commitment within
the community.
